Batteries are an essential element in the day to day life of Europe. Used in a diverse range of applications providing energy storage for renewable energy and being utilised in low-emission vehicles, to providing energy for hospitals, data centres and communications network, lead batteries are one of the key battery technologies in this landscape.
Europe’s 2050 climate-neutral goal will need batteries to ensure the success of the clean energy transition. The Consortium for Battery Innovation is excited to support the launch of EUROBAT’s “Battery Innovation Roadmap 2030” White Paper which provides an overview of the potential for battery innovation across all technologies in Europe in the years ahead, and closely aligns with our goals for lead battery innovation.
The Consortium undertakes cutting-edge research into developing the next generation of advanced lead batteries, and our collaboration with EUROBAT includes the recent submission of a H2020 proposal aiming to develop a new lead battery technology to support Europe’s growing energy storage needs.
EUROBAT’s White Paper closely aligns with the goals of CBI’s technical innovation roadmap which sets out the research priorities of the lead battery industry to support Europe’s decarbonisation and electrification goals. With a technical program working with some of the leading players in Europe’s lead battery industry, research institutes and universities, CBI’s research is ensuring lead battery technology is innovating to support a low carbon future.
With a manufacturing base right here in Europe, combined with a 99% recycling rate of lead batteries in the EU, lead battery technology will be essential for Europe’s green recovery by supporting jobs, clean energy projects and low-emission mobility and infrastructure.
