From January 2027, CBI runs research programmes for lead, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, zinc-based and flow batteries as one independent organisation. Each technology keeps its own roadmap, KPIs and funding, supported by one global team, so we can match the right battery to the right application.

CBI has developed an online tool allowing customers in the energy storage sector, from utility and renewable energy companies to systems integrators, to easily find advanced batteries that provide high performance, are affordable and reliable, whilst also being safe and sustainable. CBI Battery Match is helping energy storage companies find the best lead battery option for their system.
Membership
CBI brings battery manufacturers, suppliers, universities and end users together for pre-competitive research. From January 2027, membership opens across lead, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, zinc-based and flow batteries. Lead research keeps its own ring-fenced funding, roadmap and KPIs.
