Global battery research consortium to unveil research priorities in China

Battery experts will meet in Shanghai, China on 5-6 March to review progress developing the next generation of advanced lead batteries. The meeting will be held at the Marriott Renaissance Shanghai Putuo.

The Consortium for Battery Innovation, a newly-formed research group made up of battery companies and research institutions worldwide, is spending two days to review the latest research breakthroughs in the technology amid an expected hike in demand for battery energy storage across the country.

The technical workshop takes place as China’s Department for Energy described lead batteries as a “backbone” national industry as it announced plans to improve the collection rate of lead batteries in a bid to improve its recycling performance. The workshop will also discuss current lead battery recycling technologies employed in Europe and North America-where the current collection and recycling rate for lead batteries is over 99%.

The Consortium – whose company members in China include Shuangdeng Group China Shoto, Shandong Jinkeli Power Sources Technology, Narada Power Source, Shandong Sacred Sun Power Sources and Tianneng Power – plans to discuss market developments in China as well as unveiling research plans for the next two years.

The Consortium, which was previously known as ALABC, has funded pre-competitive research into lead batteries for more than 25 years, ushering breakthroughs such as start-stop battery technology which improves energy efficiency and reduces pollution. Lead batteries are also essential for electric vehicles, with virtually all electric vehicles employing lead batteries for essential safety and back-up functions such as lighting and other in-car safety and security systems.

  在电池储能需求有望在中国呈现显著增长之际，由世界领先的电池企业和电池研究机构发起组成的最新研究团体——国际电池创新联盟（Consortium for Battery Innovation, CBI）在上海主办了这次为期两天的研讨会。

  本次研讨会的举办背景是中国为提高循环利用效率，已宣布要提高铅电池的回收率，而国家能源局已将铅电池列为国家“支柱性”产业。本次研讨会还将讨论目前在欧洲和北美使用的铅电池再利用技术。在这些地区，铅电池的回收和循环利用率现已超过99%。

  国际电池创新联盟将在本次研讨会上探讨中国市场发展动态，并将公布未来两年的研究计划。联盟的中国会员企业包括双登集团、山东金科力电源科技有限公司、南都电源动力股份有限公司、山东圣阳电源股份有限公司及天能动力等。
